The
SUNRISE HOTEL
The best place we
stayed in would have to be the Sunrise Hotel in
Molyvos. The hotel is located on the road to Eftalou
on the other side of the castle and is about a 15
minute walk from the town. It is built on the side of
a mountain with steps leading up to bungalows of which
there are 4 rooms to a building. Each room has a
fantastic view of the sea, the olive groves, the
fields and Turkey which on a clear day looks like you
can touch it. At night you can see the lights of the
cities and towns of Asia Minor twinkling.
The rooms are
quite large and comfortable with high ceilings and
a balcony big enough for entertaining guests in
the evening before going out for a night on the
town. Each room had an individual AC, color TV, a
fully stocked fridge and by far the nicest
bathrooms we have seen on the island and maybe in
Greece. By the way the air-conditioner worked
great!
There was an excellent restaurant just off the
main lobby and another one down next to the pool,
which in the eyes of my daughter was the hotel's
best feature. In fact we could not get her
out of it and spend much of our time sitting in
the shade watching her or swimming ourselves. I am
not a pool person by nature. I can't stand
chlorine. But unlike most pools this one was not
heavily chlorinated and I actually enjoyed it. The
staff was very friendly and they all spoke
English. There were also plenty of kids around and
also couples. Seemed like a nice place to spend a
honeymoon and in fact it seemed like some people
never left the hotel. It was easy enough to do so.
There was a hotel bus into Molyvos and another to
the beach and hot springs at Eftalou which is also
within walking distance.
We woke up too late for breakfast but the
leftovers looked great and the coffee was
excellent as was the view from the patio where it
was served(photo). There are tennis courts and a
happy-hour at the pool bar, draft beer, ping-pong
and social events like Greek dancing and so on.
There was an office for
BEST Car Rental
right in the hotel too so the entire island of
Lesvos is within reach. The hotel is outside of
town and there are plenty of places to walk and
enjoy nature and in the spring, the wildflowers
must be absolutely amazing.
But the most
surprising thing was that the price was only 60
Euros a night for a double! A hotel like this on any other island would cost two or three times as much.
